Family Conferences, May 17
At the end of the school year, teachers assess children in social, cognitive, literacy and physical domains as required by the state of Ohio. Friday, May 17 has been set aside for Family Conference Day.
Be on the lookout for communication from your child’s teachers about arranging a family conference to discuss your child’s education and daily experiences at school. Reviewing these assessments and screenings are one part of conferences; discussing school friendships, learning, and setting educational goals together are important parts of the discussion. We look forward to meeting with you!
National Teacher Appreciation Week, May 6-10
Teacher Appreciation Week is the first full week of May annually to honor teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives. Check out some of the activities and treats below the A. Sophie Rogers School has planned for teachers, and add your own ideas for your child’s teachers!
In addition to some gifts, treats, and relaxing activities planned by the school, families can participate in any of the weeklong activities below:
• Note cards will be available in Town Square to write a note of thanks for classroom teachers.
• Bring in a flower or bouquet to add to vases in the classroom. This can be a tulip from your yard or a bouquet from a florist! Together the classroom can grow a bouquet of thankfulness to enjoy in the classroom!
• If you would like to contribute to school-wide gifts for staff, money can be given in the black mailbox at the front desk in provided envelopes.
End of the Year Celebration, Thursday, May 30
The school will close at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, May 30 to celebrate the end of the school year. (Please note the date change!)
Stay as little or as long as you can to join teachers and friends in the Town Square to celebrate with a short program, snacks and a brief graduation program for our kindergarten-bound graduates! We will also have a visit from the animals at Picture Perfect Ranch!
Week of the Young Child Recap
April’s Week of the Young Child celebration was a tremendous success featuring music making take-home kits, book and snack giveaways, parachute play, and painting with pups from Buckeye Paws. The week was capped off by a “Family Friday” afternoon dance party DJ’ed by school dad, Dr. Zakee Sabree. Because the week’s festivities were presented in a variety of ways (at-home, family, and in-school), this ensured that all children were able to participate in one or more of the celebrations. Many thanks to our teachers, administrators, and families for making Week of the Young Child 2024 outstanding!
Library Update
In early May, Sarah will put overdue notices in mailboxes for families who have long overdue items at home. Please return these items to the library so Sarah can accurately inventory the library collection. Families are welcome to check out books throughout the summer.
The last Book Bundle of the year will be distributed in mid-May. All matriculating students will receive their Book Bundle during the End of the Year celebration.
To celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the school will have a once weekly scavenger hunt of important figures in AAPI history. You can turn in your scavenger hunt worksheet for a small prize.
The Coffee Connections program will take a hiatus until the fall. Look for other exciting programs making their debut this summer.
