School libraries can be inspired by the programming of public libraries

May 14, 2025

A crowd of preschool children and parents stand on either side of a long table filled with activities for the children. Many of the children are wearing paper crowns with a drawing of a dinosaur attached to the front of the crown. The activities on the table involve using eyedroppers to pick up small items in tubs of brightly colored liquid, and using scoops to find bones in a sandbox.

Public libraries’ robust programming can provide inspiration to the much smaller libraries at early education centers. That was the message shared by Sarah Simpson, family education and literacy specialist at the A. Sophie Rogers School for Early Learning, at the recent annual meeting of the Ohio Association for the Education of Young Children.
