Family Conferences
Thank you for making the time to meet with teachers in October to share and discuss children’s educational experiences, goals and assessments. Family Conferences will also be offered at the end of the school year on May 16, and are available upon request throughout the school year.
Symposium on Children
ASR Educators presented posters related to their work in the classroom in the exhibitor hall during this year’s symposium.
Pre-K teachers Luanda Cunningham and Ashley Keener discussed their long-term classroom project based in the Reggio Emilio Approach to early education, and how it further fostered language and literacy connections as well as social emotional growth.
Pre-K teachers Ava Keller and Meredith Schilling presented information about mentoring early childhood educators in a pre-K classroom and the benefits to permanent staff, pre-service teachers and young children.

Fall Festival Recap and Photos
The Fall Festival was fun for students, parents and even Tiny Tim the Turtle!
The first-annual Fall Festival featured a costume parade, crafts, and some spooky treats. Even Tiny Tim got in on the festivities! Many families continued the fun by heading next door to Weinland Park Elementary’s “Trunk or Treat” PTA event. In addition, many thanks to the families that volunteered to help make this event a success.
Library Updates
The first round of Book Bundles will be distributed in mid-November. If you have any feedback on your child’s bundle or you would like to make adjustments for the next one, please contact Sarah via email at Simpson.962@osu.edu or by stopping in the library.
A cornerstone of our family engagement programming at ASR is family-centered programming so if there is an aspect of your family’s culture, traditions, or identity that you would like to share with our school community, please reach out to Sarah to partner. This could be in the form of a display or a program. We will be celebrating the month of November as Indigenous Peoples Month and we look forward to creating programming that honors Black History Month in February.

Free Sunday Admission at the Columbus Museum of Art

- Until the end of the year, admission is free on Sunday at the Columbus Museum of Art, 480 E. Broad St., Downtown
- Museum hours on Sunday are 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
- Admission is also only $5 on Thursday after 5 p.m. (The museum closes on Thursday at 9 p.m.)
- Families with young children will enjoy the JPMorgan Chase Center for Creativity featuring the Big Idea Gallery to encourage imaginative play for everyone. You’ll also enjoy the art and exhibitions featuring world-renowned artists.
Beginner Bird Walks at Scioto Audubon Metro Park

- Saturday, November 9, at 10 a.m. is the final Beginner Bird Walk of the year at Scioto Audubon Metro Park, 400 W. Whittier St. just south of Downtown
- Take a guided hike with Grange Insurance Audubon Center Educators or Columbus Audubon Volunteers to see what birds you can find in the park
- Meet at the front desk inside Grange Insurance Audubon Center
- The guided bird walk is free, but each participant is required to pre-register due to limited space
Home Depot Kids Workshop Kit

- Free kids DIY workshops are held at Home Depot stores on the first Saturday of each month between 9 a.m. – noon (in November, on Saturday, November 2)
- Register to participate at your local store while space is available; you can arrive anytime between 9 a.m. and noon to build or take home your project
- Stores may have extra projects left over the following week and may give them to kids for free! Ask at customer service!
- Kids will also get a certificate of achievement, a workshop apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last
